Senator Calls For Investigation Of Army MP Who Died Mysteriously Overseas

Denisha Montgomery Smith, 27, was found unresponsive in her Army barracks on August 9, 2022 in Germany, where she was stationed. Three weeks earlier, she told her family she was assaulted after a night out with squad members.

Senate Judiciary Committee Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) has asked the U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to review the events surrounding the death of PFC Denisha Montgomery Smith.

Montgomery Smith, a mother of three from Hodgenville, Kentucky, did a video call with her family in July 2022 saying that she did not trust Army leadership after an incident in which she was allegedly attacked by fellow MPs.

Senator Calls for Review Of Army MP’s Death

On August 9, 2022, Montgomery Smith was found in her barracks hanging from her military issued belt. The Army listed her death as a suicide.

In the letter, Grassley says: “I have received disturbing reports from multiple military advocacy groups regarding the events leading up to the death of U.S. Army, PFC Denisha Montgomery. PFC Montgomery was assigned to the 139th Military Police Company, and was deployed on active duty to U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden, Germany. The circumstances surrounding PFC Montgomery’s death raise serious questions which require further investigation from your division and answers to Congress.”

Here is the letter that Grassley sent to CID, which his office forwarded to BlackGirlTragic.com.
