Deneisha Smith: NYC woman choked to death by boyfriend in store fight caught on video
Deneisha Smith, 27, of Flatbush, New York, was an educated woman. According to her Facebook, she studied at the University of West Indies and graduated from Brownstown High School. She was also a proud mother of a young son and loved her job at Bedford Technology, a small NYC store that sold cellphones.
In another chilling example of workplace violence against women, police are still trying to piece together what they are initially investigating as a deadly case of domestic violence, which took place Friday night, October 1, 2016.
Inside an electronics store caught on surveillance video, Smith was fighting for life against a man. Blow after blow, the two quarreled. The fight soon turned bloody. The man was slashed in the chest with a piece of broken glass. Blood splashed on the floor. The adversary? Her boyfriend.
The video shows in brazen detail the shocking attack, which ended with Smith's apparent strangulation, according to the New York Post. Smith was found by a co-worker inside the store, Bedford Technology. She suffered "trauma to her neck," according to the New York Daily News. Her boyfriend was subsequently arrested after being identified from the video.
It’s a vicious attack lasting over 10 minutes,” a source told The Post. “And the woman fought for her life.”
Police arrested the man a few blocks from the store at his residence. He was home with his wife and four kids, the Post reports.
As officers approached him, he tried to stab himself, according to WABC.
