Shanai Marshall: NJ woman overpowered in her home & stabbed repeatedly by baby's father, police say

Shanai Marshall, 37, was stabbed to death November 15, 2016 after her baby's father forced his way into her New Jersey home. Police are searching for the suspect.

New Jersey authorities in Burlington County said Shanai Marshall, 37, was at her Mount Holly home trying to get her life together. She had recently kicked her boyfriend out of her home and she was trying to move on.

The man, Rashon Causey, had been kicked out before, but this time it seemed like Marshall was serious about starting anew.

Police say Causey forced his way inside and viciously attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times.

"I heard the screams, I heard everything," neighbor Josephine Haas told ABC6. "I heard, 'Help! Help! Help!'"

Haas said the suspect took his time. "He wasn't running," she was quotes as saying. "He was very calm, cool and collected."

The Monday, November 14, 2016 attack was so vicious that when first responders arrived they had to transport her to another city to try to save her life.

She died Tuesday in Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, New Jersey.

Police said the man who committed the heinous act is 38-year-old Causey.

Police have no information on his whereabouts, but Causey is considered armed and dangerous.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said,  “No arrests have been made. The assault appears to be an incident of domestic violence, and the preliminary investigation has identified a possible suspect,” according to Fox 29 TV station.

Causey, 38 of Burlington City, is facing charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, burglary among others.

Police said this is not Causey's first brush with the law; he has a long criminal history, including assault on an officer.

Causey is considered a fugitive and anyone with information that could lead to his arrest is asked to call Burlington County Central Communications at 609-265-7113.
