Shanice Amerson, 21, loved nothing better than to play with her two small children.

Her best friend, Sharaven Clinton, told local media that she will miss her friend.

"Most thing I'm going to miss about her is seeing her playing with her kids," Clinton told KFDA-TV. "Like, that's all she ever cared about. And I know if I could give my life for hers, I would."

A child's birthday party turned into a bloody scene of chaos Thursday in a Dyersburg, Tennessee, home when a confrontation among adults turned deadly.

Police said six people were shot, including a child. Twenty-one-year-old Shanice Amerson, the mother of two children, was fatally wounded.

According to the State Gazette, the shooting victims ranged from ages 6 to 32 years old.

Dyersburg Mayor John Holden told WREG that an altercation happened at the home earlier in the evening and they think the shooting is related to that incident.

Family and friends had come together to celebrate the birthday of a 2-year-old.

Neighbor Stephanie Childress said that she was about to cook dinner when she heard a series of gunshots.

"Only thing I knew to do, was to try and run down here and help as much as I could," Childress told KFDA. "It was hysterical. The baby was sitting in the high chair and there was, I know, two on the porch that were shot. The one lady that I was helping was on the ground."

She told the TV station that she learned CPR in nursing school -- and it came in handy.

 "Right after people were scattering and running and it was pretty much just hysterical," Childress was quoted as saying. "I really didn't see anything other than somebody needing help, and that's what I was trying to do."

Multiple victims were taken to the hospital, which was put on lockdown as a procedural precaution, WREG reports.

Childress, speaking to KFDA, said in the chaos, she rushed to help a young woman who had gotten shot. 

"She was shot here in the chest, so we were applying pressure and another gentleman," Childress was quoted as saying. "She was gasping for breath and all I knew was to try and keep performing CPR to keep her breathing, keep her heart rate up."

Clinton, Amerson's friend, said that the whole thing was senseless.

"She was innocent. All those people that got hurt was innocent," Clinton told KFDA. "They don't deserve that. Her kids don't deserve to have no mama. Who wants to grow up without a mama? Who wants to have to remember that their mama passed away on their birthday? That's something I would never want my child to grow up and have to deal with."
