Brannae Brown: 15-year-old shot dead in drive-by in Kansas City

Brannae Brown, 15, was on the porch of a home when she was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Kansas City, Kansas on September 2, 2016.

Fifteen-year-old Brannae Brown wanted to be a dentist when she grew up. Now those dreams are laid to rest, as is Brannae. The teenager was sitting on the porch of a home with friends on September  2, 2016 in Kansas City, Kansas when an old Chevy Impala rolled up on them.

Someone in the car opened fire. Brannae took off running. One of the bullets caught her, ripping through her stomach.

Brannae's last moments of life were on the floor in a panicked cousin's apartment.

"I was saying Brannae Brannae Brannae. Please don't leave us. Brannae, stay with us, stay with us," Tahsay Horton told Fox 4 KC.

Tahsay said she and her sister Tanesha's home was likely targeted by gunmen. The sisters were across the street with their kids when the shooting erupted.

Tahsay said that Brannae's death shook her because of the teen's last moments. She said that Brannae crossed her fingers hoping she would not die.

"The last time we said her name, she turned her head and looked at me and my sister and she had her fingers crossed like this, and that's when she took her last breath," Tahsay told the TV station.

The Horton sisters said that the shooting was the second one in about  about a month that the apartment has been shot up because of a dispute between young boys no older than 17-years-old.

"I asked them when they first came through here, when this stuff at first happened, I asked them, like 'Why?' What is y'all funking for? Whatever y'all say.  What is all this for? They don't know. They really can't tell you," Tahsay told Fox 4KC.

Police have made one arrest in the drive-by shooting, which also injured two other young men.

A GoFundMe page set up for Brannae's funeral expenses got more than $4,000 of its $5,000 goal.

"My 15 year old daughter Brannae' Browne was killed in a drive by shooting on September 2, 2016 in Kansas City Kansas. I am trying to bury my oldest child my only daughter. I didn't have life insurance," the page, set up by her mother, says.
