Aysia Chambers was going to do big things. She had just earned a master's degree in speech-language pathology in May from Buffalo State University.

Weeks later, on June 2, 2017, she came back home to visit family on Roe St. in Port Richmond, Staten Island. When Chambers went into her room for several hours, family members became concerned. When they gained entry to her locked door, they found her dead in her bed inside her home.

Her sister, Nija Howard, told local news that Chambers' death is "very unreal, It's very devastating. You don't expect someone that is 24 years young to drift away in her sleep." Her sibling said that she knew she took some consolation from the fact that "she went peacefully."

"I'm heartbroken," said cousin Tia Randle told Staten Island Live. "I'm horrified. She did everything right. She went to school and came back home with degrees."

A GoFundMe from her best friend lana Wofford says the following:

I don't even know where to begin. My name is Elana Wofford, I'm Alana Norwood's best friend. Alana is Aysia's cousin and will be giving the funds to the Chambers family in order to make sure all funeral arrangements can be covered. This amazing, sweet, kind, nice, young girl has been called home at a point no one would have ever fathomed. She received her masters degree in speech pathology almost a week ago. I don't know all the logistics but I do know, there is a family in mourning that wasn't prepared for such a tragedy. Please help in anyway you can to make this easier on the mother, cousins, and everyone effected by this tragedy. 

Her friend Morgan Taylor said that Chambers was one of the most loving, caring and smartest people she ever knew.

 “She probably would have been clearly the most successful out of all of us and we all agree with that," Taylor told WIPV. "Just her intelligent brain, and her nature, she was so caring and loving. She was self-motivated. Any obstacle that she had, she overcame it. I’m really upset about her passing clearly, because she was one of my closest friends, but I’m just so grateful she was able to walk across that stage and feel that accomplishment.”

While the New York Police Department has said that there were no signs of trauma, the medical examiner's official cause of death is still pending.
