Karen Turner: 33-Year-Old Richmond Businessowner Gunned Down At Apartments
Karen Turner, 33, was found shot to death inside a Richmond, Virginia apartment on Aug. 24, 2017. A pregnant woman who got into a confrontation with Turner is being questioned by police.
Karen A. Turner was a Richmond, Virginia businesswoman, the owner of her own hair business. The North Chesterfield woman was doing what she could to become a BMW: Black millionaire woman. But her dreams were cut short.
In twin shootings on August 24, 2017, Richmond police found Turner shot to death inside a vehicle and another woman bleeding from a gunshot wound at an apartment complex in the city’s southside.
The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. at the 220 Green Cove Drive at the Blue Ridge Estates apartment complex. Officers described a grisly murder scene once they arrived.
"Officers responded and located the female with a gunshot wound to the leg, but also found a female (Karen) nearby in a vehicle who was unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound," a Richmond Police spokesperson said. "She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman inside the vehicle, who has been identified as 33-year-old Karen A. Turner of North Chesterfield, was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Virginia TV station WRIC.
Authorities are still investigating but said that the shooting was preceded by a disagreemtn between the women. Turner reportedly came to the apartment to confront another woman who had claimed that Turner's boyfriend was the father of her child.
The woman, was is pregnant, told authorities that she shot Turner in self-defense.
Turner, 33, was a budding entrepreneur and the proprietor of Sewins Express, a weave shop.
“She was a boss lady," Turner's cousin, Olivia Robinson, told WTVR. "She just graduated from University of Phoenix. She had her bachelor’s and she was thinking about getting her master’s degree. It was about elevating in life.”
The businesswoman was about to expand her two-year-old business to North Carolina. “She was traveling. She was becoming a world-renowned traveling stylist," Robinson was quoted as saying. "Also franchising SewIns Express."
The female victim who had been shot was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
