Shaquana Button: 36-Year-Old Woman Shot In Face Outside Bronx Bodega
Shaquana Button, 36, spent her last moments on Earth arguing with a man inside a New York City bodega. She was seen on security footage in a tense debate with a man inside the Bronx store on Sunday, January 14, 2017.
When she ventured outside the bodega, the man followed her and shot her in the face, according to NYPD officers. Authorities don’t know what precipitated the argument, which happened at the Candy & Grocery deli located at 728 E. 149th St. at about 11:40 p.m. , according to police.
The suspect fled on foot, while Button lay dying. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Now police have identified the alleged shooter as 24-year-old Amere Bryant. Authorities told the New York Post, that Button's mother was also gunned down "the same way" in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn in 2004.
This week, mourners remembered Button as a good friend who got along with everyone.
“I don’t know why anyone would do this,” said her best friend Arabia Ritchie, 34, told the New York Daily News. “She didn’t have (conflict) with anybody. She was a nice person.”
