Shykia Ward-Reece: 14-Year-Old Decatur Girl Stabbed To Death; Suspect Caught
"She's a sweet little girl," a neighbor told a local news camera. "No child deserves nothing like that."
Especially not Shykia Ward-Reece, who neighbors and community members are memorializing outside her home, where she was killed Sunday, March 25, 2018.
Decatur police responding to a call about a person stabbed found two bodies inside an apartment about 9:35 a.m. The other person, a male, hasn't been publicly identified, pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities in the Atlanta area launched an intensive manhunt for the man wanted in their deaths. He is Royce Stewart, who was arrested in the afternoon of Monday, March 26, in downtown Decatur.
Stewart was apprehended as he was trying to ditch his vehicle, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
That vehicle is one of the ways authorities were able to catch the suspect, although DeKalb County sheriff's deputies have not divulged full details surrounding how Stewart was caught.
But after the murders, he was last seen on security camera walking toward a stolen silver convertible Ford Mustang with Georgia tag 1BARB1E.
Authorities asked the public for help in finding Stewart, who is 36 years old. He is described as a black male, standing 5'11", weight 174 pounds, with a medium complexion, black dreadlocks and brown eyes.
Anyone with anymore information on this case is asked to call the Decatur Police Department at 404-373-6551 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
