Kayviaun Nelson: 21-Year-Old Gunned Down In Broad Daylight In Omaha

Kayviaun Nelson, 21, was shot dead Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in broad daylight after she pulled into a Walmart parking lot. No arrests have been made.

Kayviaun Nelson, 21, had pulled into an Omaha, Nebraska Walmart parking lot as thousands of people do every day at the location. Soon another vehicle pulled up next to her, ramming her car.

That’s when witnesses said that they heard gunshots. "I heard three or four shots," a witness told KETV NewsWatch 7. "And then I ended up seeing someone (who had crashed their vehicle)."

Nelson suffered grave injuries in the shooting. Paramedics desparately tried to save her, but she passed away.

The shooting was reported around 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Authorities have reason to believe that a “disturbance” happened elsewhere and reignited outside the Walmart.

"This may have come from a different part of town and come to a head at this location," Lt. Amy Oetter told the TV station.

It is unclear whether Nelson had a child in the backseat at the time of the shooting.

Witnesses did report however that they saw an officer carry a child to a police cruiser.

Police closed down theWalmart for hours Wednesday evening as the entire parking lot became a crime scene, according to 3 News Now.

Authorities are looking for who would gun down a woman in broad daylight. There are no suspects and no arrests have been made. They are looking for a bronze 2001 Chevy Malibu with the plate VVT 545.

Anyone with information should contact the homicide unit at 402-444-5656 or Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP (7867).
