Chelsee Dennis: Pregnant Woman Shot, Killed In Car While 6-Year-Old Daughter Watches
Chelsee Dennis, a California girl, just wanted what was best for herself and her child.
She had met a man on an online dating site and moved to Arizona with him after the two got serious -- but there were problems.
“She just wanted somebody to love her,” Dennis’ longtime friend, Taneshia Lewis told local media.
On Tuesday, April 17, 2018, police said that Dennis was in the car with her boyfriend when the conversation turned into an argument. Also in the car, was Dennis' 6-year-old daughter.
It was the girl, according to AZ Family, who alerted witnesses to a crime: She was screaming and covered in blood. When investigators arrived on the scene, the girl told them “He shot my mom real hard.”
Dwight Miles, 36, is accused of opening fire on 29-year-old Dennis in the car while her daughter watched. Dennis was shot in the head, police said.
Dennis' friend said that when she first met Miles, she knew her friend was in an abusive relationship.
“I knew from then it was a controlling situation,” Lewis told AZ Family. “He wouldn’t let her do too much, he wouldn’t let her go nowhere with her family and friends.”
She begged Dennis to get out of the situation, but things weren't that easy.
A police report in the case says that Miles threatened to kill Dennis twice on two earlier occasions.

During a probable cause hearing in August 2018, the court heard more disturbing revelations about the case, including that the 5-year-old begged for her life after she witnessed her mother shot.
Doctors rushed Dennis, being pregnant, into emergency surgery in an attempt to save the child. The baby boy was delivered successfully but in critical condition.
Miles is the child’s father, according to news reports.
