Vanita Richardson And Truvenia Campbell: Bodies Found In Rural Georgia With Bags Over Their Heads
Two sisters, 19-year-old Vanita Richardson and 31-year-old Truvenia Campbell were more than a decade apart in years, but you couldn’t that if you didn’t know it.
The half-sisters were extremely close. They were last seen in Vanita’s car on May 12, 2020 in rural Rome, Georgia, about an hour from Atlanta.
Sometime afterward, road crews discovered their bodies on the banks of the Etowah River underneath the bridge. They women had bags over their heads, according to authorities.
Joe Montgomery, the GBI Special Agent In Charge in Calhoun, said this of the victims:“They had bags over their heads at the time. They’d obviously been dropped from the bridge."
Along with the victims’ family, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations wants answers. In addition to a search for the killers, the agency continues to look for the car that Vanita was driving.
The 1997 Toyota Corolla has a Georgia tag reading RTJ 6295.
Authorities believe the vehicle is possibly being stored somewhere in the Atlanta area. They are asking all those with knowledge about the whereabouts of the vehicle to come forward.
On May 21, 2020, Desmond Lavonta Brown, 28, was rearrested by the GBI on dtrug charges related to cocaine possession and intent to distribute.
Also taken into custody was Devin Lashawn Watts, 36. He is charged with theft by receiving stolen property; possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
Although two men have been arrested in the case, neither are facing murder charges related to the slaying.
As a result, authorities believe that there may be more than one killer, but have not divulged any details about who they think could have committed such a hideous crime.
Investigators are asking anyone who might have any information to call the GBI tip line, 1-800-597-8477.
