Breanna Woods: 28-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Shot Multiple Times In Atlanta
Breanna Woods had a welcome smile to any and all customers who came to Black Coffee in Atlanta, Georgia.
Black Coffee owner Carl Northop, speaking to the AJC, said that although Woods didin’t have any experience in the coffee industry, he hired her because of her elite customer service and hospitality.
“She quickly became one of the most consistent people here. One of our best employees,” Northrop said. Woods’ personable nature allowed her to rise to general manager of the coffee shop.
On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, Atlanta police responding to a shots fired call at the Twelve Centennial Park building, where Woods lived, found her with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woods lived at Twelve Centennial Park, a 39-story tower near the I-75/I-85 junction that cuts through the city’s midsection.
Authorities arrested 30-year-old Douglas Hairston and charged him with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, police said.
Woods and Hairston had begun a romantic relationship, Northrop told the AJC.
Black Coffee owner Carl Northrop told the AJC that he had seen Hairston come to the coffee shop frequently over the past few months. He’d oftentimes bring his laptop and work while he sipped coffee. He and Woods evidently grew close.
“He was here every single day, which is even more jarring because I had gotten to know him as well, because he was her partner and he’s creative,” Northop told the newspaper.
