Police in Shaker Heights, Ohio, outside Cleveland identified Danielle Harris, 35, as the victim of a fatal gunshot wound about 10:47 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Relatives on social media described Danielle Harris, 35, with superlatives such as “outstanding, positive and uplifting.” Perhaps, most of all, she was a loving mother to her children.

Police in Shaker Heights, Ohio, outside Cleveland identified Harris as the victim of a fatal gunshot wound about 10:47 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Also shot and killed was Lasteven Huckabee, 35, also of Shaker Heights, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Both bodies were discovered in the basement of a home. Meanwhile officers found four children in the second and third floors of the home as well as just outside the residence.

Shaker Heights police said the children told officers that Huckabee, their father, shot Harris, their mother, then turned the gun on himself.

Relatives on social media expressed their pain over the loss of Danielle, who they called Honey Bunny.

“Asking for prayer for the Harris family. My beautiful lovely niece Danielle Harris. Victim of senseless violence,” Pat Harris said on Facebook. “I am heartbroken today but she rests with God. She was an amazing woman. She was not married to him. Murder suicide. RIH Honey.”

The victim’s aunt, Tonia Parker, also posted on Facebook about her, saying, “Lord, I pray that you are going to bless my Honey Bunny kids 4 life who are left with no parents. But mainly a mom.”

She continued, “I pray that the Lord will stop the violence and blacks killing blacks … and punks who kill themselves too after knowing that they pulled the trigger on the wrong person. … Domestic violence needs to stop.”

Police said the children found on the scene were unharmed.

The evil scourge of domestic violence continues to plague the lives of black women in this country.

The Guardian reports that four black women/girls are murdered every day in the United States. If we omit the fatalities, multiple scientific studies have concluded that black women endure higher rates of murder, rape, racism and domestic abuse.
