Brittany Matthews: 31-Year-Old Mom Ambushed, Murdered At Jacksonville Gas Station
Brittany “Bee” Matthews was a loving mother making a name for herself in Jacksonville’s hair and beauty industry. After years of hard work, her business and clientele was starting to grow.
Not a lot is known about what transpired on the morning of Monday, August 3, 2020, other than it was the day somebody decided to cut Matthews’ life short.
The 31-year-old mother was shot to death outside a Jacksonville gas station about 9 a.m.
Still photos taken from the gas station’s security camera show a gunman running up to Mathews’ vehicle and shooting her several times.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has not released a motive in the murder, but they do believe it was a targeted killing.
Authorities say the gunman jumped out of a Nissan Rogue and began shooting. Released photos of the gunman show him to be a thin black man with a mask and hoodie.
A GoFundMe account set up for Matthews says that all the proceeds “will go to her handsome son.”
“I’m sitting here in my car, that car right there, sitting right there I’m looking at my phone about to get ready to go into the store and I hear pow pow, pow, pow,” said a witness who asked not to be named.
Mad Dads, a local nonprofit that helps the community, says the crime has got to stop.
“They have no regards for human life at all. They’re embarrassing the community and they need to break the code of silence to remove this individual from our community. She was a mother regardless of what the circumstances was,” the group’s resident Donald Foy told TV station Fox30 .
