Lauren Allen, 31, was a Lyft driver out trying to provide for her family when the unspeakable happened in the blink of an eye.

“She was a vibrant young lady, who did what she needed to do for her kids," said Joe Sawyer, the victim’s father and a Peachtree Corners councilman. "That’s why she was out working. She was just miss independent, miss social butterfly.”

“She was just a great, wonderful, loving, bubbly person. This is just so unfair," Lauren's mom Kim Sawyer told local TV station 11Alive.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, a passenger she was dropping off got into a "domestic dispute" with another man, who opened fire on the car, according to police.

Law enforcement is still not sure whether Allen was an intended target of the shooting.

The man who police say pulled the trigger, Lerelle Chatman, 23, had a rifle and got into a gunfight with officers, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which has launched an investigation. Police killed the man, the agency said.

A GoFundMe set up by Allen’s family says, “This beautiful women of God who's spirit and energy was as bright and vibrant as the Sun, was senselessly and tragically gunned down while working for Lyft trying to provide for her family. Lauren was first a beautiful blessing and joy to her parents Joseph and Kim, then a hard working single mother of 3 beautiful children that she loved dearly. Our hearts are heavy. Many family and friends are mourning because of this shocking tragedy. Please help her memory and family with prayer and financial support for the funeral arrangements, and her beautiful children that she has left behind.”

A witness to the slaying told WSB-TV that several gun shots rang out around 8:45 p.m. Another witness says she heard 10 to 15 shots and that she saw someone shooting from a car.

“Me and my daughter instantly called 911,” she told WSB-TV.
