Pamela Alcantara: 26-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Suitcase in New York
Pamela Alcantara, 26, of the Bronx, New York, had recently broken off a three-year relationship with a man 20 years her senior.
A chaplain with the Latin American Chaplain Association, Alcantara, was a person who always attended church services. When she didn’t show up on Sunday, March 2, 2025, her friends and family became worried.
"She went to church, she went home, she spoke with her mom on a daily basis and she only spent time with church friends and went to work. That was it," Alcantara's cousin Naysa Peguero told WABC TV in New York.
Alcantara had found a new place to live and was close to leaving, but it never happened.
“"She was supposed to move, and I think he found out," Isa Peguero told WABC TV, referring to her boyfriend. "He used to put a recorder on the car and recorder in the bedroom so he can know everything what happened, what is she doing?"
Alcantara's body was found in a red suitcase left near a creek in Yonkers, New York, on the morning of Thursday, March 7, 2025.
Her boyfriend, Junior Perez Diaz, 46, has been charged with murder, manslaughter and two counts of kidnapping.
According to police, Diaz told detectives Alcantara left her apartment in a hurry, wearing pajamas and carrying the red suitcase. Evidence recovered by detectives later revealed that was not accurate, and he requested a lawyer, according to media reports.
Furthermore, surveillance video shows Diaz carrying a red suitcase to his car, which was caught by a license plate reader near where Alcantara’s body was found.
Alcantara's mother said her daughter told her Perez Diaz threatened to kill himself if she left him.
Alcantara's cause of death has not yet been determined.
