Tracie Golden: 53-Year-Old Mother Shot Dead, Car Stolen In Detroit

Tracie Golden, 53, was fatally shot on Detroit’s west side about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022. Local police said that the gunman shot Golden in her midsection and stole her car as well as other valuables.

Tracie Golden was a wife and mother who spent many years of her working life helping to save the lives of others. She was employed for a decade at Sinai Grace Hospital, her sister-in-law Janine told local media.

But more than a hospital worker, Tracie Golden was a loving mother and wife.

Detroit police say that at about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, Golden, 53, was fatally shot on the city’s west side. Local police said that the gunman shot Golden in her midsection and stole her car as well as other valuables.

“I don’t care about the car. I want my wife back,” her husband John Golden told WXYZ-TV. “Which I can’t get back. I was told she was shot in the abdomen one time and didn’t make it through.”

Police said the victim was rushed to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.

John Golden went on to describe his wife as “My rock. My heart. My everything. Everyone that knows her and me knows how we felt about each other.”

The victim’s sister-in-law Janine said Tracie Golden’s life course was all about helping others.

“She saved so many lives in the ER and to have hers taken so senselessly is ridiculous. Whoever this person is, it’s not going to go away. When you close your eyes you’re going to think about it,”  Janine was quoted as saying.

“I am truly saddened by the senseless murder of Mrs. Golden, she truly represented the best of us. We should all be outraged at the cowardly act that took her from our community,” Detroit Police Chief James White said. “This suspect, and anyone aiding or harboring this individual, will be arrested and we will seek prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. We will use every available resource to bring justice to the Golden family, as we pursue this murderer.”

Police are looking at security video to find the suspect, who law enforcement says had a pistol and wore a black jacket, gloves and dark shoes.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking up on Tracie Golden, who had just exited a convenience store on the city’s west side.

He was last seen driving Tracie’s charcoal Gray 2018 Dodge Journey with Michigan plate DYN 1663.
