Tracy Nyariki: 31-Year-old Missing Delaware Nurse Found Dismembered in Man’s Vehicle

Tracy Nyariki, 31, of Newark, Delaware, was a nurse who had recently gotten remarried in a traditional ceremony honoring her roots in Kenya.

She had been back on the job for only a short while when she stopped showing up for work for several days. Worried about her, Nyariki’s employer contacted police in New Castle County, Delaware. It was December 20 2024, just days before the Christmas holiday.

Officers who arrived at her apartment in Bear, Delaware “uncovered several suspicious circumstances that raised concerns about her safety and well-being,” according to Master Cpl. Richard Chambers, a spokesman for the New Castle County Police Department.

On Dec. 21, police tracked down Nobert Matara in a vehicle in Aberdeen, Md. Inside the vehicle, investigators found Nyariki's dismembered remains, Chambers said.

The grisy discovery shocked police and has stunned the victim’s family.

Her family said that her new nuptials were likely the motive that upset her former partner, who authorities have identified as Nobert Matara.

"They broke up long ago, and Tracy moved on with her life," one of Tracy's sisters told local media. "I think he saw that he lost chances with her completely."

"On Saturday, one of our cousins told us she was missing. We were very worried, and on Sunday night we were informed that she was no more,” the sister was quoted as saying.

Matara is in custody in Maryland awaiting extradition to Delaware, where he will be charged with first-degree murder.

Anyone with information or related video footage regarding the homicide should contact Det. Adam Holubinka at 302-395-8254 or Adam.Holubinka@newcastlede.gov, or contact the New Castle County Police non-emergency number at 302-573-2800.
