Zambrecia Works: 22-Year-Old Woman Beaten To Death In Detroit

The body of Zambrecia Works, 22, was found inside a parked SUV on Detroit's west side on Friday, August 12, 2022. Authorities said she had been beaten to death.

Zambrecia Works, 22, was an exceptional young woman who had plans to become a doctor, those who knew her told local media.Known to her close friends as “Breezy,”

Works stood out from her peers because of her hard work, said Mel Polk, president of the No Barrier to Success program, of which Works was a part of.

“Zambrecia was an exceptional participant in that program,” Polk told WDIV TV in Detroit. “She was an exceptional young lady. Beautiful young lady. She was smart, dedicated and on her way up the ladder.”

Unfortunately, just days away from Works’ 23rd birthday, tragedy struck.

Works’ body was found inside a parked SUV on Detroit's west side on Friday, August 12, 2022. Authorities said she had been beaten to death.

Police officials confirmed that the grisly discovery was made inside a Dodge Journey near an intersection.

“Whoever did this is a real coward in real life,” Works’ mother, Lajuana Jackson, told local media. “My daughter is only this big. You didn’t have to do all that to her.”

Tragically, the heartbreak is familiar to Jackson.“Ten years ago today, I was in the same predicament with her brother,” Jackson was quoted as saying. “Exactly 10 years later and here I am again? What are the odds that I lose two (children) in one lifetime?”

A GoFundMe set up to help pay for funeral expenses for the Works, reads:

On Friday August 12, 2022 a beautiful soul was taken from this world far too soon. The pain felt from this tragedy hurts more than words can explain. As this loss was totally unexpected, my family is asking for donations to lay Zambrecia (Breezy) to rest. All donations will be used for funeral cost.

Paul Works, the victim’s father, told WDIV that he was confident that his daughter’s killer would be caught. “He’s probably gonna watch this. We’re coming for you. We’re coming for you. Justice will be served cause there’s too much technology out here.”
