Blendon Township Police Release BodyCam Footage In Ta'Kiya Young Shooting Death

Police in Blendon Township, Ohio, have released additional footage in the officer-involved  death of Ta'Kiya Young, the pregnant 21-year-old who was fatally shot on August 24, 2023 in the parking lot of a Kroger supermarket.

The footage shows the moments right before Young is shot as well as surveillance video from inside a liquor store. The Blendon Township Police Department said two other unidentified women are seen on video putting bottles into their bags.

The police department have released a series of redacted videos of the incident, which are below:

As you can see from the videos, a peaceful resolution is quickly made impossible.

Once the women are outside, Young gets into a Lexus parked in a handicap spot while the two other women get into another car and leave.

Meanwhile, two officers are seen in the parking lot assisting someone when a Kroger employee tells them about people shoplifting from the store. That’s when the confrontation begins.

Killed By Police: A Growing Problem

Young is not the first black woman to be gunned down by a police officer, and we’re afraid that she won’t be the last.

In the springtime of 2020, Breonna Taylor was executed by St. Louis police in her bedroom in a botched raid and subsequent investigation.

In 2016, Michelle Lee Shirley was killed by officers in Torrance, California.

Alexis Wilson, 19, of Homewood, Illinois, was shot and killed by a police officer after a confrontation outside of a restaurant.
