Chaquanda Latise Odom: 36-year-Old Shot Dead Right After Divorce Finalized
Chaquanda Latise Odom, 36, of California, Maryland, had recently finalized her divorce from her husband, 38-year-old Jayson D. Pressley.
Maryland State Police (MSP) said on Friday, January 3, 2025, that Pressley pulled a gun on Odom while she was in her vehicle on a street in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. Her last words, according to Pressley’s account to police, were, “You better Not… .”
When officers arrived on the scene about 11 a.m., they found Odom, who had been shot multiple times, including in the head and upper body. She died on the scene.
Pressley later pulled up to the Maryland State detention center to turn himself in to authorities, according to police. He told officers that he and Odom agreed to meet at a parking lot near his home, where he was to give her a $22,000 check following the divorce.
He said that Odom remained seated in the car while he stood outside of it, talking through the open driver’s-side window.
At some point during the conversation, he pulled out his firearm and shot at Odom two times. When asked why he brought his 9mm handgun to the meeting, he declined to answer.
Pressley is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and use of a firearm in a violent crime in relation to the fatal shooting.
During their investigation, they discovered two shell casings inside Odom’s vehicle, which may suggest that the gun was at one point inside the vehicle during the shooting.
Authorities continue to investigate the domestic killing. Pressley is being held at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center without bond.
