Courtney Owens: 34-Year-Old Car Dealership Employee Shot Dead By Masked Man On The Job
A masked man walked up to Courtney Owens, 34, and shot her dead inside a car dealership in Snellville, Georgia.
The bold murder took place the afternoon of Friday, December 9, 2022 at Royal Court Motors, where Owens was an employee, according to a Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office press release.
“At approximately 2:30 p.m., officers at the Southside Precinct responded to a person shot call at a business. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female deceased of a gunshot wound inside a business. A witness described a male wearing a mask with a firearm leaving the scene on foot,” the release says.
Gwinnett County, Georgia, authorities wrote in a press release on December 12, 2022.
A man visibly carrying a firearm and wearing a mask went inside the business, according to witness statements made to police, and shot the woman.
No one else was injured in the shooting, which authorities said was captured on security video.
Police still don’t know whether Owens was targeted or if the shooting was random, but said it is possible the shooter and woman may have known each other, or that the shooter may have been known by someone with the dealership.
“A possible suspect may have been known to the business or somebody in the business,” said Cpl. Ryan Winderweedel of Gwinnett County Police. “Detectives are following up on leads trying to figure out what a motive would be.”
Investigators are working to determine a motive. As of Friday evening, no one was in custody.
Police are checking security camera video from the dealership and from nearby businesses.
