Melissa Turner, 39, had a passion for fashion. The 39-year-old used her keen sense of style to start a fashion brand that catered to full-figured women.
The Jackson, Mississippi entrepreneur and fashion model bet on herself to grow her brand, often posing in her own pieces and holding retail pop-ups to promote her clothing brand, Modishlife.
She was behind the wheel sitting in traffic on a Jackson street on Friday, August 20, 2021. Suddenly a bullet ripped through her shoulder.
Turner’s 16-year-old son, who was also in the car with her, was uninjured, according to local reports.
Paramedics rushed Turner to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Investigators have arrested a suspect, Charity Barnes, who was taken into custody at some local apartments.
Police have yet to release a motive and the investigation into Turner’s slaying continues.
