Mya Kelly: 23-Year-Old Mother From Grand Rapids Shot Dead On Christmas Eve
Mya Kelly, 23, of Grand Rapids, Michigan was “the best, best woman ever. A strong, strong Black woman. Beautiful,” her sister Shanice Kelly told WOOD-TV. “She liked to dance, she liked to sing, she liked to do hair, she liked to do all that.”
Kelly, a mother of two, was fatally shot just before 10 p.m. on December 26, 2022, inside a home on Canton Street SW near Division Avenue.
Grand Rapids Police Department Chief Eric Winstrom told reporters that officers are on the case “nonstop” to find answers.
“To have an innocent mother, a 23-year-old woman, killed in front of her two young kids … absolutely devastating,” Winstrom said.
Police have released few details in the case, although they have ruled her death a homicide.
Her family told local media that the incident has ruined what was normally a festive time.
“Not good,” her sister told the TV station. “It’s just sad and depressing.”
Police are still investigating, and details are limited at this time. This article will be updated as details are released.
