Star Tucker: 30-Year-Old Mother Shot Dead, Run Over in Florida
Star Tucker, 30, a California native, was a Florida A&M University alum who earned a nursing degree. She also served in the Air Force, working in Pensacola. More important than anything, she was a mother to a young son.
She was killed on Thursday, January 2, 2025, about 8 p.m. in what authorities describe as a “domestic” incident.
Responding officers said that when they arrived, they found Tucker in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. She had also been run over by a vehicle.
A suspect, 30-year-old Charles Jerome Carson-Dowdy was located in Spanish Fort, Alabama, and booked into Baldwin County Jail. He is charged with killing Tucker, who has been described as his girlfriend, at at an Escambia County apartment complex.
"My sister was the light that shined through everybody's darkness," younger sister Raya Tucker told local media. "She was someone who it didn't matter the time, the place, she always made herself available for everybody. She was sweet. She was giving. She was an amazing mother. She was an amazing sister, she was an amazing aunt, niece. She was everything."
Raya Tucker told a media outlet that her sister and Carson-Dowdy had been dating for a few months.
"I didn't see any any red flags. Then I should have caught it," the sister was quoted as saying. "He seemed sweet. He seemed innocent. ...They looked happy. So to think and sit back and just read the details about how he did my sister, it hurts. We are broken. We are hurting here."
Sheriff Chip Simmons says Carson-Dowdy shot at Tucker 15 times, hitting her at least seven times. He then allegedly got inside his Jeep Cherokee and ran over Tucker, then backed up over her before speeding off.
"Whatever triggered this, obviously it's unwarranted to use any violence," Sheriff Simmons said. "But to use this level of violence, this level of brutality, it was uncalled for."
Tucker was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. Meanwhile, authorities found Carson-Dowdy in the Jeep Cherokee with a flat tire just over the Alabama state line.
"We don't have information on why, but quite honestly it doesn't matter why," Sheriff Simmons said. "You can't do this. You shouldn't do this. You shouldn't be able to do this."
According to the local media, court documents indicate Carson-Dowdy was also arrested in Mobile in 2023 as a fugitive wanted for assault in Texas.
