Takeisha Hughes-Coats: 26-year-old Washington, D.C. woman found dead
After her body remained unclaimed at the morgue for a week, the family of a woman shot multiple times earlier this month has come forward.
The slain woman has been identified as 26-year-old Takeisha Hughes-Coats of Washington, D.C., police said. The family contacted authorities after seeing the story on the news.
Hughes-Coats' body was found riddled with bullets in a parking lot outside some condos in Hillcrest Heights, Maryland on Jan. 15.
"She's someone's child," Prince George's County police Assistant Chief Sammy Patel told the NBC Washington. "There's no other way we can start this investigation truly without identifying who she is."
"This is one time when we'd really, really like [the public] to come forward. There's no way we can start this investigation without knowing really, who she is," he told reporters.
Now, police need to find her killer. They are asking for the public's help. If you have any information, please call 301-772-4925.
