Airiyuanna Burston: 21-Year-Old Fatally Shot In SUV On Atlanta Interstate
Friends and family are trying to figure out what happened to Airiyuanna Burston, the 21-year-old Georgia woman who was shot to death inside a vehicle on interstate 20 in Atlanta last week.
Authorities opened an investigation after they found Burston fatally shot in a silver SUV on I-20 Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017. The other two people in the SUV told police that a person in another vehicle shot the victim in a road rage incident.
Now, authorities said that they believe something suspicious happened. DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said, “we don’t believe this is what happened," according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The two other people said that a vehicle jumped out in front of them "in an aggressive manner."
Police said that a man riding in the backseat of the Jeep Patriot shot Burston. Police identified 22-year-old Gregory Neal as the suspect and arrested him.
Another man, 20-year-old Decardo Glenn, who is Neal's cousin, was driving the SUV when the incident occurred. Burston was Glenn’s girlfriend, the newspaper reports. Authorities don't think Glenn had anything to do with the shooting, but charges could still be forthcoming related to a cover-up.
“They were scared,” Oleta Glenn, Decardo Glenn’s mother and Neal’s aunt, told Channel 2 Action News on Friday. “They should have just told the truth.”
Neal is in the DeKalb County jail on a murder charge.
