Twenty-three-year-old Anitra Gunn was a diligent student at Fort Valley State University in South Georgia.

The Atlanta native graduated from West Lake High School in Fulton County. In college, she was a senior looking forward to graduating and starting a professional life.

Gunn disappeared on Saturday, February 15, 2020 — Valentines Day — according to her family who tried to contact her repeatedly to no avail. The next day, her family reported her missing.

‘She Never Texted Back’

Gunn’s family said they grew concerned when she reached out to her via text message.

"She never texted them back, didn't call them back. That's when we knew something is definitely out of whack," said Christopher Gunn told local media.

“That’s when we knew something was out of whack,” he said. That’s when her father drove around 100 miles from Atlanta to Valdosta.

That same day, police began searching for Gunn around the university. Soon officers found her car, which had sustained damage on the bumper.

According to a Fort Valley Police Department media release, Gunn was last seen on Feb. 14 at approximately 11: 30 a.m in the Chestnut Hills rd area just outside Fort Valley.

‘We’re Gonna Leave No Stone Unturned’

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2020, authorities announced that her body had been found in Crawford County. Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said Gunn’s boyfriend is a person of interest in the case, but not a suspect.

Days before the incident, her bodyfriend, DeMarcus Little, was charged with damaging her property, according to law enforcement authorities.

"He is charged with Criminal Damage to property. These offenses occurred on 02052020 inside the city limits of Fort Valley and Anitra Gunn was the victim. In this incident the windows were smashed at her apartment and tires were slashed on her vehicle. More charges may be forthcoming,” Fort Valley PD said in a statement.

Deese said the case is not currently being investigated as a homicide, but of course, more information is being sought.

“We are unsure of what she may have been wearing at the time. She is described as 5'07, 165 lbs., black hair and brown eyes,” Fort Valley police said.

Since her disappearance, social media has been flooded with remembrances of Gunn, who was well liked in school as well as her hometown.
