Cierra Young: 18-Year-Old Woman Shot Dead Behind Wheel In D.C.
Eighteen-year-old Cierra Young was found slumped over the wheel of her car after a two-vehicle crash on Sunday, February 14, 2021.
Upon arriving at the scene, EMS workers tended to the driver of the other vehicle, who was slightly injured. When they went to help Cierra, they discovered that the District Heights, Maryland teenager had a bullet wound in her shoulder.
She was then rushed to a nearby hospital unconscious and not breathing. She was pronounced dead moments later.
Police say that Cierra was shot while in the vehicle but they are still trying to determine whether the gunshots originated inside the car or outside of it.
Nevertheless, the fatal shooting is yet another tragic end to a young Black woman in America’s streets.
The victim’s mother, LaShawn Young told local news outlets that Cierra had recently become an aunt and that she had an older sister and a younger brother.
While there is suspicion that the incident stemmed from road rage, authorities have not confirmed it.
“I’m sad. You know, Cierra was a beautiful kid. She was always smiling and I’m going to miss that, you know,” Lashawn Young told NBC 4 in Washington.
