Keyirra Tatyana Walker: 25-Year-Old Pregnant Mother Shot Dead In Her Sumter, SC Home
Keyirra Tatyana Walker, 25, unresponsive inside her Carrol Drive home, authorities said.
Keyirra Walker was known by neighbors as a kind, young mother who could be seen enjoying life with her kids.
"I knew her as a sweet, outgoing young lady, always outside playing with her kids,” her neighbor Russell Williams, lives across the street, told TV station WLTX. “She used to love to bring her little son over here and watch my dog. I just knew her as an outgoing, pretty, sweet young lady.”
Her relatives say Walker, who had just graduated from the Central Carolina Technical College’s nursing program, she had plans to do something greater with her life.
“She always mentioned to us that she wanted to further her education,” Walker’s cousin Hakeem Drayton told WIS-TV. “So at this point, you know we’re just going to continue to wrap our arms around Chastity and Tyler [Walker’s children]. I’m sure when they’re older they will want to know, but you know we’re here to answer those questions for them.”
Williams said what happened to Walker has broken his heart.
Walker, who was pregnant, was found shot and killed inside her home Monday morning, May 13, 2024, according to Sumter police. The officers arrived about 7:45 a.m. after they were called by family members, who found Walker unresponsive inside her Carrol home, authorities said.
Coroner Robbie Baker explained what he saw in Walker's home and said his thoughts are with her family.
"She was deceased in her bedroom on her bed from an apparent gunshot wound,” Coroner Robbie Baker told the media outlet. “It was multiple, that's all I'll say.”
He went on to say, “The city processed the scene for several, three, or four hours. Like I told her mother, no parent should have to bury their child. My thoughts and prayers go out to the mother, family, and children of Miss Walker.”
Officers said that there were no forced entry into Walker's home and that the murder was likely committed by someone she knew and trusted.
“Hopefully, we can find out who did it so we can get her family some closure," Williams said.
No arrests have been reported by police, who are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting.
