Kyla Cooper: Pregnant Mother Shot Dead in Georgia After Confrontation With Other Woman
Kyla Cooper was a mother of two children, a 4-year-old and 5-year-old, and had recently found out she was expecting again. The Conyers, Georgia mother drove to boyfriend Rashad Thompson's house in the middle of the night, about 12:45 a.m. on June 20, 2024, to tell him she was pregnant with his child.
Once she arrived at the home, Cooper was confronted by another woman,
That’s when the Rockdale County sheriff’s office was called to home, but by then it was too late.
Cooper, age 24, was dead from a gunshot wound.
Sheriff deputies surmised that an argument began between Cooper and Arkia Tate, who was also reportedly in a relationship with Thompson.
Although Tate had sped off in a vehicle, sheriff’s deputies quickly apprehended her. Tate was arrested on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
It is still unknown whether any children were inside the home during the deadly shooting.
"There's no justification for this whatsoever. I don't see it. This girl is simply going over there to establish a pregnancy," Ronald Countee, Cooper’s father, told Atlanta TV station FOX 5. "I guess the girl who the house belonged to came pulling in and sees them arguing. They said my daughter never even had a chance to defend herself. The girl just pulled a pistol out and shot her right in the head, point blank range."
The victim's boyfriend was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges.
