LaKevia Jackson was a mother who was known as a sweet and positive person. The 31-year-old also happened to be the mother of a child with Jeffrey Lamar Williams better known as the rapper Young Thug.
The two had met before he was famous, according to her mother.
On Thursday, March 17, 2022, Atlanta police responded to a disturbance at a local bowling alley in the southwest part of the city.
LaKevia was attending her best friend’s birthday party and was apparently shot as she was leaving the bowling alley.
According to CBS reporter Tori Cooper, the victim’s mother confirmed that her daughter was at the bowling alley to celebrate the birthday of a close friend. After a disagreement with a man there, but things seemed to have blown over.
According to Cooper, the man waited about 20 minutes in the parking lot to continue the altercation.
“I didn’t know that was going to be the last time I talked to my baby,” her mother, Sherina Jackson, told local media. “I could hear her over the phone crying and screaming then her best friend said she’s not breathing!”
According to APD, the fight began over a bowling ball.
“We talk about conflict resolution time and time again, and once again, this is an escalated dispute in which a young lady has lost her life,” Lt. Ralph Woolfolk told 11Alive.
“I lost my baby all over a bowling ball,” Jackson was quoted as saying.
“This is truly an atrocity. A young lady has lost her life over a bowling ball. We talk about conflict-resolution time and time again and this is an escalated dispute so we will work this case through the night and we will find the person responsible,” APD Homicide Commander Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said. “We know who are so go ahead and turn yourself in.”
APD is currently interviewing a woman at the scene of the crime, who is not identified as a suspect as of now, and she is cooperating.
