Yolanda Dillion, 54-Year-Old Uber Driver Fatally Stabbed By Rider Who Recorded It On Facebook
Yolanda Dillion, 54, of Marrero, Louisiana, was a quiet woman who worked as a budget analyst with the New Orleans Police Department for 10 years. She spent much of the last few years caring for her sick mother, according to local media reports.
Dillion had begun driving for Uber as a way to earn some extra cash, although how long she had been with the rideshare company is unclear.
Just after 10 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2022, Dillion picked up a rider in New Orleans and took him to the parking lot of a Travelodge in nearby Harvey, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
That’s when law enforcement says 29-year-old Brandon Jacobs allegedly attacked Dillion, delivering “a major stab wound that incapacitated her almost immediately,” according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, who updated the media on the slaying along with NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson.
When asked why he did it, Jacobs told law enforcement he “just wanted to kill someone.”
“His confession basically stated that he woke up yesterday morning and decided he was going to kill someone and decided that was going to be his day,” Lopinto told reporters.
The suspect hailed an Uber earlier in the day but didn’t choose to kill that person. But with Dillion, it was different.
“We asked him specifically, ‘how did you pick her?’” Lopinto added. “His response was ‘I didn’t pick her, Uber picked her.’ She was the random person that picked him up that day.”
Lopingo said that after the stabbing, Jacobs “exited the vehicle and just walked away casually.”
Jacobs recorded and posted a gruesome video of the aftermath of the stabbing on Facebook Live. The video has since been taken down, according to TV station Fox 8.
"Luckily, he does not have a lot of followers," Lopingo added.
Dillion was found inside her vehicle and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries, Lopinto said.
NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said Dillion was a valued employee to the department.
"Our team is taking it pretty hard. She will be dearly missed. She was quiet. She was humble. She was a quiet giant."
Jacobs, who told police that he is originally from New Orleans but recently moved back to the area after living in Seattle, gave law enforcement a full confession
He was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder and has not been given a bond.
