Monique Smith was a hardworking mother who provided for her four children. Two of them were soon to receive awards at school for perfect attendance. Now, they were be getting a funeral instead.

Smith was a mother with three children. 

That's the thing that has rattled New Orleans residents, tough by nature, about the terrible triple slaying of a family.

The Orleans Parish Coroner has identified the deceased as Monique Smith, 30; Justin Simms, 10; and Jumyrin Smith, 6. Smith's 12-year-old daughter A'Miya was seriously wounded in the shooting but survived. 

New Orleans police were called after 4 a.m. early Friday morning to a Gentilly residence about a shooting. What they found was a house of horrors.

As they walked through the home, they first encountered one of Smith's children, another daughter, a 12-year-old, barely breathing. She was rushed to University Medical Center and later listed in serious condition.

As the officers continued through the home, they found three more bodies: Smith and her two sons, all of which had been shot multiple times.

The grisly quadruple slaying has rocked even the most hardcore residents of the city.

"I don't know what to say. This is shocking to us," Meldricka Reddicks told the Times-Picayne. "I'm sitting here trying to play it back."

"That's my only grandchild!" a woman later identified as the grandmother said as she collapsed beside police cruisers at the crime scene.

Neighbors said the family was like any other, they moved into the home about a year ago. But soon people said they didn't see the parents so much, only the kids and the dog.

"It's sad," said one neighbor told the Picayune. "The family seemed like they were real peaceful. The children seemed happy. But it's just New Orleans: You never know."

Neigbhors said the man of the house had recently moved to Mississippi.

Police have no suspects in the crime. They are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this shooting. Anyone with information should call the agency at 504-822-1111.
