Asia Womack: 21-Year-Old Killed Over Pickup Basketball Game In Dallas

Asia Womack: 21-Year-Old Killed Over Pickup Basketball Game In Dallas

Asia Womack, 21, was shot five times after beating a man in a game of pickup basketball on Monday, October 3, 2022 in Dallas, Texas. She died at a nearby hospital.

Asia Womack was in South Dallas, Texas, doing what she loved to do: play basketball. The 21-year-old played ball at nearby Madison High School before graduating.

On this warm evening of Monday, October 3, 2022 at T.G. Terry Park, she was playing an innocent game of pickup basketball – when things turned deadly.

This time Womack was playing against an older male, and she won the game. But he got sore feelings.

"This is so senseless," Pastor John Delley told a local media outlet. "You become embarrassed basically because a female beat you in basketball."

The man was so embarrassed, that he drove his kids and brother home and came back to the park with a pistol, according to the victim’s family.

Asia Womack was shot five times, according to law enforcement. When first responders found her on the sidewalk, they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

‘Asia loved basketball. She loved basketball to the point, she died doing what she loved.’ her mother, Andrea Womack, told CBSDFW.

"This was supposed to be a friend of Asia's. She's eaten with the man," Andrea Womack told local media. "She's fed him, and he turned on her and killed her in a vicious way."

“We’re taking it kind of hard because it was senseless,”  Womack’s aunt Juanita Smith told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. “I just don't understand why you kill somebody over a basketball game,” said Smith.

“[It’s] hard because it’s my only sister,” Alia Womack said, breaking down crying.

At the time of this writing, police had not arrested the shooter nor released any leads in the case. They are however looking to see if security video shows the gunman’s vehicle leaving the scene.

"My prayer is that justice be served," Delley, the pastor, was quoted as saying. "That he is found or that he will give up or turn himself in."

"If you know where he is, where his whereabouts are, please turn him in.," Andrea said. "Help the family out. We're hurting."

“Detectives are still working the case,” police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman told Fox 4 News. “They’ve been working it since Monday night trying to find justice for Miss Womack.”

Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
