Breaja Jones: 21-Year-Old Woman Shot, Killed in California Home
Breaja Jones of Clovis, California, wanted to go to school for phlebotomy, according to her family and friends. The 21-year-old would do anything for her baby girl.
"As soon as she had her daughter, she's like I got to get it done, I got to make something shake for my baby,” Brishae Allen told local TV station KFSN. “She called her dream, and she's like, ‘I got to do it for Dream.’”
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the day started off like any other autumn day.
"Even though everything was normal, it changed, literally in a blink of an eye it changed for us," Brishae Allen was quoted as saying.
Multiple people were at Jones’s home that day, including 21-year-old Tavion Tapscott, who used to date Jones and was the father of their 2-year-old daughter, Jaliah. According to police, Tapscott opened fire on Jones inside the home while the others were present.
He fled the scene but later turned himself in to authorities.
"She was such a sweet soul and for someone to take her life so prematurely, it's just beyond heartbreaking," Tracie Walker, Breaja's mother, told the media outlet. “"For him to do this, to take my baby, to leave my precious little grandbaby without a mother and ultimately without a father, too. It is horrible.”
The family has a strong message for those who are dealing with domestic violence and abuse of any kind:
"Get out while you have a life, while you're living. Get out while you have the option to love on your children, while you have the option to love on your family, and don't think there's anything too strong that can stop you from getting out of it."
"Loving, kind, and no matter how much she wanted to do for herself, she always, always always made sure her family was good," Brishae said of Jones.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has charged Tapscott with murder and child endangerment charges. He has pleaded not guilty.
