Laneesha Columbus: Pregnant Woman Shot Dead In Minneapolis; Father Of Child Arrested
Leneesha Columbus was a hard-working Minneapolis woman who loved to take selfies. Working as publicist for Dawgy Entertainment, she also was trying to get into the modeling business.
Her plate was full: She was also looking forward to having a healthy baby in the coming months. But that’s when tragedy struck.
The 27-year-old’s Ford Explorer was shot up on a north Minneapolis street on July 5, 2020.
Columbus, who was five months pregnant, suffered a gunshot wound in the upper torso, according to the police report.
Witnesses told local authorities that moments before the gunshots, they saw Columbus and Zachary Robinson, the father of her unborn child, arguing in a parking lot.
Columbus was rushed to the hospital, where she died. Doctors were able to successfully deliver her baby in critical condition.
Witnesses on the scene told police that Columbus was pulling off in her Explorer when Robinson allegedly starting shooting into the vehicle, which had then stopped.
Right after the shooting, Robinson was confronted by a man who saw the shooting. Robinson allegedly pulled a gun out and shot the man in the foot, according to a complaint obtained by local media.
Because of his criminal past, Robinson was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm. After a nationwide manhunt, he was found and arrested days later in Chicago. Minnesota officials later transported him back to Minneapolis to face murder charges.
Columbus’s baby is doing much better.
