Shaliyah Davis: 25-Year-Old Pregnant Mom Shot Dead In Philadelphia
Shaliyah Davis was looking forward to the birth of your baby and the joys of motherhood. The Philadelphia 25-year-old had just finished visiting relatives when she was shot dead in an SUV on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Davis, was rushed to a local hospital, but died about four hours later of a bullet wound to the head. Her unborn child also did not survive.
Philadelphia police said that Davis was not the intended target of the brazen daylight attack. Instead, authorities say Davis’ boyfriend was the intended victim, according to TV station Fox29.
From interviews with witnesses, police say that Davis’ boyfriend was seen getting out of the Ford SUV when a gunman approached and immediately began firing.
"From witness accounts a male individual came to the vehicle, approached from the passenger side, opened the door, and fired a shot into the car,” Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Benjamin Naish told local media. "He was chased by another individual and as a result of some video that we recovered it appears that the second individual may have been firing shots or at least chasing the original shooter with a gun."
Davis’ boyfriend reportedly fled the scene as the gunman shot into the vehicle.
“We have a lot of work to do but at the end of the day, these young men must put these guns down,” City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson told CBS Philly.
Here’s why telling our own stories is important:
Interestingly, as part of their effort to paint America’s streets as those inundated with violence, Fox News erroneously reports that Davis WAS the intended target and that police believe the shooting was a domestic incident.
Philadelphia police are asking for the public’s help in finding the shooter.
