Nicolette Law: Philadelphia Woman Shot In Walmart Parking In Dispute
Nicolette Law of Allentown, Pennsylvania was someone that her whole family loved to be around. And Law, 23, had her sights set on becoming a nurse that would help the elderly.
“She had a contagious smile. She was helpful. She was inquisitive. She wanted to know everything. She loved music and TikTok,” her aunt, Erica Hampton, said at a vigil.
Law stopped in a local Walmart on Friday, February 26, 2021 to pick up a few items when things would soon turn chaotic.
According to The Morning Call, Law was in the store accompanied by a child’s father for a planned custody exchange with the child’s mother, according to authorities. She planned to sleep over at a friend’s after leaving the Walmart, her family said.
“She wanted to be a nurse,” Hampton was quoted as saying. “She liked to help the elderly. She was raised by her grandmother, who died a couple years ago. I think she missed that connection, so that inspired her to want to help others and make people smile.”
Police say Edward Joel Rosario-Jimenez, 23, of Whitehall Township, showed up at the Walmart with the child’s mother. A confrontation broke out in the store parking lot. Rosario-Jimenez opened fire, shooting Law and the child’s father, according to the authorities.
Police found a pistol hidden in a snowbank near the parking lot, according to WFMZ.
Rosario-Jimenez is in the Lehigh County Jail without bail. He is charged with criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license.
It is our sincere hope that Law’s tragic slaying will cause us to consider the enormous toll losing the life of a black woman has on us as a community and a people. We want justice. We must treat each other with love. We must protect each other.
