Trina Hollings: Indiana Woman Killed in Triple Murder-Suicide

Trina Hollings was a bright light to her family and other loved ones. The 33-year-old Normal, Indiana, woman was shot and killed on Sunday, February 23, 2025, along with other victims in a mass shooting.

The Bloomington Police Department's preliminary investigation revealed that Hollings’ friend 31-year-old Chelsea Lusher and her son, 13-year-old Armoni Bennett, were also murdered by Christopher Simmons, the boyfriend of Lusher.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Lusher, Hollings and Bennett all died of multiple gunshot wounds inside a Bloomington home. The coroner's report noted no other injuries.

After killing the others, police said that Simmons then pulled the trigger on himself, resulting in a triple murder-homicide.

Simmons and the victims were pronounced dead at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, and the victims all suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said another person who lived at the home found the bodies and called 911.

Authorities also revealed that although Simmons had legally purchased the firearm used in the murders in 2021, his firearms ID had been revoked for undisclosed reasons.

"Our entire department mourns because of the unfortunate loss of life in our community," Police Chief Jamal Simington said in a statement. "We stand for all who were victimized and offer our thoughts and prayers. Life is so precious, and we will remain anchored in justice and working with the community to enhance the quality of life here in Bloomington. I commend our professional staff and officers for their painstaking work on this high-profile investigation. We appreciate the community's patience as we worked diligently with our public safety partners and the community to gather facts prior to releasing details. This slight delay is necessary and out of respect for justice and the families of the victims."

At a vigil held days later, Amber Thompson of Lexington, the sister of Chelsea Lusher and nephew, Armoni Bennett, two of the victims, had a warning for those in a similar situation.

“If you’re in a domestic violence relationship, get out. Run! It’s not worth it. For real, it’s not worth it. I just lost my sister and nephew to domestic violence. My nieces lost their mom and their brother to domestic violence,” Thompson said. (Police say their investigation so far suggests Lusher's boyfriend, Christopher H. Simmons, shot all three victims and then killed himself. Police say the gun was found under Simmons' body.)

A GoFundMe set up by Trina's loved ones says this:

"Trina Hollings was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in her death due to a senseless act of violence. During this time, I am doing my part to help raise funds for the Hollings family and the mother of Trina, Emma Hollings. No mother should have to grieve the loss of their child while worrying about after life expenses. To know Trina was to know the most beautiful soul in the room. She was always putting her family first and she protected the ones she loved the most. She was such a bright light. Please help support the Hollings family during this unimaginable time."

The Bloomington Police Department and McLean County Coroner's Office were continuing to investigate the deadly shooting. Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Kevin Raisbeck at 309-434-2593 or kraisbeck@cityblm.org.

A GoFundMe for Lusher and Armoni has also been set up.
