Adau Duop: 25-Year-Old Mother Gunned Down In Car In Portland
Adau G. Duop, 25, was shot to death on February 20, 2022, while in a car with her fiance and two children in Portland, Oregon.
Adau G. Duop, 25, was a loving mother who was a South Sudanese immigrant who grew up in North Portland, Oregon.
One of her favorite pastimes was vlogging about her two boys on their family YouTube channel.
According to The Oregonian newspaper, Duop also worked two jobs, one as an in-home caregiver. She also was enrolled at Mt. Hood Community College to become a nurse.
On Sunday, February 20, 2022, Duop, her fiance and her two sons, one 5 years old and the other age 1, were in a vehicle when someone opened fire on them just after 10:30 p.m., according to KPTV in Portland.
The original report from the Portland Police reads:
On February 20, 2022, at 10:37 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to a call of an injury accident in the 12800 block of Southeast Foster Road. While officers were responding, the call was updated to report that the vehicle was possibly shot at. Additional calls came into dispatch on reports of gunshots heard in the same area. When officers arrived they found the four occupants of the car had been shot. An adult female in the car was deceased. An adult male and two children were transported to an area hospital. The male is in critical condition and the children are both in stable condition.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Duop was killed from a gunshot wound.
Her fiance, who suffered a serious gunshot wound, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be alive. The two children are OK after being released from the hospital.
An online fundraiser set up by the children’s school is currently raising money for the family.
The GoFundMe says, “This past weekend, a CAIRO Academy student & their family were attacked and shot in their car. The student's mother was killed, while our student, their younger sibling, and father were all injured and hospitalized. The father is in critical condition.
“Our CAIRO Academy student is kind, respectful, and is one of the sweetest kids in our program. When he comes into the classroom, he may be quiet at first but his smile brightens up our room. His family has always been amazing at communicating with the teachers and staff if he is sick, going to be absent, or who's picking and dropping him off for the day. The mother always made sure we knew any information about her son that she thought was important. She was sweet just like her son, cared so much about his education, and was always understanding. She was a lovable person and amazing mother.”
A friend of Duop, who was known to many of her friends as Adele, told The Oregonian that the mother will be sorely missed.
“She’s not just another statistic, just forgotten,” the friend was quoted as saying. “Adau was the person who always had your back if you had a problem, a trustworthy friend who never judged anyone. I was so angry because this wasn’t supposed to happen. She didn’t deserve this. Nobody does. She was taken away from her kids, family and friends.”
A police investigation into the murder continues.
