Camisha Johnson: Woman Shot Dead At Atlanta Area Gas Station
Camisha Johnson was trying to piece her life back together after a separation from her husband in the Atlanta area. The 36-year-old lived with her mother in Riverdale, Georgia and earned a living as a bus driver for the Clayton County School District.
Her mother told local media that Johnson would often park behind a gas station to meditate and pray quietly.
"And she said, ‘I just praise Him,’" Johnson's mother, Virginia Hunter, told Fox 5 Atlanta. "And I said, ‘Camesha, baby, it's just so dangerous out here.’ She said, ‘Mama, I'm aware of my surroundings. I'm not afraid to die, but I'm aware of my surroundings.’"
“This is her happy spot,” Jeffrey Hunter, her father, told WSB-TV.
“She went by that same BP every day, faithfully. And I used to tell her how dangerous it was,” Virginia Hunter said.
Johnson was fatally shot on Friday, June 30, 2023 at a gas station off State Route 85 in Riverdale, Georgia.
It took two hours before Johnson’s body was discovered in her vehicle.
"My baby sat there for two hours waiting for someone to come help her, nobody came to help her," Hunter told the TV station.
Johnson died from a single gunshot wound, which hit her in the shoulder and travel to her heart, according to media reports.
"She was such a beautiful person inside and out," her mom told Fox 5. "She loved to laugh. Loved to dance. She was just such a free-spirit person and I want to know who do this."
While police have no suspects, the family believes that the gunman may be someone that Johnson may have known.
"I want to find out who did this because they took my baby," her mother said, "they took my baby from me."
Clayton County Police are asking anyone with information about Johnson’s shooting death to contact them.
